This site is about amateur road cyclists trying to fit in Saturday morning rides amidst the pressure of a full week’s work. Or is it perhaps the other way around: trying to put in some decent work in between the Saturday ride and weekday dreaming of it.
We will tell you of our experiences along various road cycling routes south of Manila. We will share which routes are friendly to cyclists (where the jeepney drivers are cyclist friendly, where there are 7-elevens or gas stations that stock up with reasonably priced Trail Mix or Gatorade) or where the fresh air of green rice paddies is attractive. In the next posts, we will try to be more travelogue-ish and less about us and our middle-aged body pains.
Oh by the way, we are not iron-men road cyclists, not the guys (and women) who have size small jerseys who do quick rides up Antipolo or to Tagaytay and Batangas, riding bikes that cost like cars. We aspire to have size small jerseys (at least I do) and to be able to do the century and half rides at full pump 33 kilo per hour pace. But I am satisfied with my second-hand red Pinarello. Unless the next one is a second hand Prince Pinarello for the same friendly price.
We welcome guest blogs and/or links from cyclists who also explore the south. We would love to link with Paulina and Christy and other friendly Cartimar stores, for their prices are friendly; Sabak too is priced reasonably and staffed with ladies who know road bikes well but do not make us feel afraid to ask. Would be nice to know of reasonably priced (cheap, great deal) little-finger carry light carbon bikes being sold, new or “pre-owned” (as the BMW outlet says); always good to dream of upgrading. Or the current sale in jerseys, Shimano 105s.
Good to dream of Tagaytay this year. Maybe next year, the dream is a week-long road-bike road trip to Bicol; by then we will be wearing size small jerseys (at least in our minds). If you are interested in chasing the same dream, let us hear from you.
